Drafting
The IVC Drafting Program is designed to help students gain computer-aided design skills that are in demand across a wide array of technical fields including engineering, architectural design, and land development. In as little as one semester, students can learn the fundamentals of an industry standard CAD program and can greatly enhance their existing skillsets or gain access to a diverse job market with outstanding opportunities for long term growth.
View Transfer Options, Degrees & CertificatesThe IVC Drafting Program is designed to assist students in developing computer-aided design (CAD) skills for businesses involving manufacturing, construction, testing and design. Students receive advanced training on industry standard CAD programs such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, Revit, and Civil3D. Additional instruction is provided covering basic terminology, object identification, and modern business practices. Students are typically provided with free educational versions of software programs for home use and certification exams are available both online and through our testing center. Professions which utilize computer-aided drafting skills include mechanical engineering, civil engineering and land development, electrical drafting, and architectural drafting with building information modeling (BIM).
Program Length
The average time to completion for our Certificate of Achievement Award or AS Degree is approximately 4 semesters, or two years.
The average time to completion for one of our Certificates of Proficiency is approximately 3 semesters, or 18 months.
Transfer Options

Transfer Options
The Computer Science Department was recently interviewed by the Information Communications Technologies (ICT) and Digital Media Economic & Workforce Development
California Community Colleges regarding their high success in student transfer rates to four-year colleges. Our students transfer to many four-year colleges, from Cal State Fullerton to UCI and UCLA as well as to highly prestigious schools such as Carnegie-Mellon, Cal Tech and MIT. Computer Science students are continuously kept informed regarding transfer requirements and changes that occur to these transfer requirements.
Program Specific Support
The Student Success Center offers free tutoring services which are available to all students enrolled in Computer Science courses. Computer lab access is available to those students enrolled in courses that require specialized software which is installed on the computers in the Student Success Center. The center also has a 3D printer, scanners, and a regular print station available for student use. Tutoring is available year-round, during fall, spring and summer sessions.

Chemistry
What is Chemistry? It has been defined in various ways. Wikipedia defines it as “the scientific discipline involved with elements and compounds composed of atoms, molecules and ions: their composition, structure, properties, behavior and the changes they undergo during a reaction with other substances.” Textbooks alternatively define chemistry as the study of change, observing and measuring the world around us, etc. but it can most succinctly be defined as the study of matter and energy.
Chemistry is often called the “central science” because it links the physical, life, and applied sciences. It is foundational for most of the STEM related fields and the chemistry curriculum is designed to foster an understanding of the fundamental principles of chemistry in a variety of applications-medicine, health-care products, energy, food production, body metabolism, structural materials, microelectronics, and the environment.
View Transfer Options, Degrees & CertificatesThe chemistry curriculum is designed to meet the needs of students who wish to pursue a major in (1) chemistry, biology, marine science, geology, physics, medicine, engineering, or technology; (2) paramedical or allied health science, including nursing, dental hygiene, physical therapy, or nutrition; or (3) liberal arts.
Students learn how chemical knowledge is derived, theorized, and applied in solving problems in everyday life. They perform experiments in a modern chemistry laboratory with state-of-the-art equipment under the guidance of experienced faculty. In addition, students have an opportunity to enhance their understanding of chemical concepts and improve their laboratory skills through a series of computer-aided lessons and exercises.
Program Length
The Associate of Science degree is comprised of four semesters of chemistry coursework in the major. They are General Chemistry, CHEM 1A and 1B, and Organic Chemistry, CHEM 12A and 12B. In addition to the major courses, students must complete general education courses and have a total of 60 units to earn the degree. Most students can complete this degree in two years by taking a minimum of 15 units per semester.
Transfer Options
By completing the four chemistry courses in the A.S. degree in Chemistry, students have satisfied the chemistry requirements for all UC and CSU campuses and would only need to complete the remaining major requirements as required by each UC and CSU campus.
Program Specific Support
Student success is supported through an active Student Success Center, and chemistry students are provided generous tutoring support from well-qualified tutors.

View Transfer Options, Degrees & CertificatesBusiness administration and management courses help prepare students for leadership and decision-making in the workplace and provide educational foundations enabling students to transfer to 4-year institutions and advance their business education. Students who study business have the opportunity to develop core skills, across an array of subjects including, accounting, finance, management, human resources, marketing, international business, and organizational behavior. With these skills students will be able to recognize relationships between people and processes; and apply theory to real-world problems. Courses are designed to provide foundational business knowledge while providing opportunity to develop management and leadership skills. Many business majors continue their education while others go on to work in different sectors, pursue roles within small-to-medium-sized enterprises, innovative new start-ups, charities, non-profit organizations and NGOs. Others take action on an idea and launch their own business.
