Languages & Learning Resources
Languages & Learning Resources
Explore and learn other languages and their cultures. Students who complete an area of study in Languages will be able to engage in basic interpersonal communication including comprehension, speaking, reading and writing. Additionally, language study increases critical thinking and creativity. Students will also gain cultural insight and a global perspective. Potential careers that benefit from or require language fluency include health care, national security, tourism and hospitality, education, law enforcement and international relations. Areas of study include American Sign Language, Chinese, French, Japanese or Spanish.
The ESL/AESL program supports non-native English speakers with English language course work to help them succeed in college, at their jobs, and in the community. In the AESL Program, students earn Certificates of Competency by completing a course sequence at the beginning, intermediate, or advanced level.
IVC students, including students taking a language or ESL/AESL class, are supported by a variety of learning resources on campus. Students may seek specialized assistance at the following learning centers: Language Acquisition Center, Math Center, Adult ESL Center, Student Success Center, Writing Center, CAANAPI, and the Library. Eligibility for some services is based on current course enrollment.
