View Transfer Options, Degrees & CertificatesBusiness administration and management courses help prepare students for leadership and decision-making in the workplace and provide educational foundations enabling students to transfer to 4-year institutions and advance their business education. Students who study business have the opportunity to develop core skills, across an array of subjects including, accounting, finance, management, human resources, marketing, international business, and organizational behavior. With these skills students will be able to recognize relationships between people and processes; and apply theory to real-world problems. Courses are designed to provide foundational business knowledge while providing opportunity to develop management and leadership skills. Many business majors continue their education while others go on to work in different sectors, pursue roles within small-to-medium-sized enterprises, innovative new start-ups, charities, non-profit organizations and NGOs. Others take action on an idea and launch their own business.

IVC 30 to CPA
Business SciencesIf you have your bachelor’s degree, IVC can assist you in meeting the educational requirement to become a licensed California Certified Public Accountant (“CPA”).
View Transfer Options, Degrees & CertificatesOnce a student has completed the IVC 30 to CPA program and if the student has taken the other requisite courses, the student will be qualified to sit for the CPA exam. There are a variety of opportunities for CPA’s.
Completion
Upon completion of the program and depending on the courses the student has already completed, the student may be eligible to sit for the California CPA exam.
Transfer Options
Not applicable. This program is designed for students who already have their bachelor’s degree to meet the educational requirements to sit for the CPA exam as well as meeting the educational requirements to become a licensed CPA.
Program Specific Support
The two full time faculty members in the accounting department (“Accounting Faculty”) are available to assist students with evaluating their coursework to date to determine what courses need to be taken. The Accounting Faculty ask the students to list out all courses taken to date at other schools on a spreadsheet (courses passed / course name / units) prior to meeting with the Accounting Faculty to more quickly evaluate the student’s needed coursework.
Please see the following website for additional information: http://www.ivc.edu/faculty/btchaikovsky/Pages/default.aspx.

Accounting
Business SciencesAfter transfer, what employer will be coming to your four-year school to hire you upon graduation? Whether or not you choose accounting, you should be asking yourself this question as it’s critical to obtain a job while you are completing your undergraduate studies. Four-year schools with robust accounting programs have many recruiters from the accounting profession and industry to hire accounting graduates.
View Transfer Options, Degrees & CertificatesAfter completing the AS in Accounting at IVC, you will have a solid foundation for transfer. The financial and managerial accounting courses at IVC are challenging and “problem based” meaning upon your transfer you will be ready for the rigor of upper division accounting courses.
Although the economy may have challenges from time to time, historically, the demand for accountants has always been strong.
If you are planning on working in the accounting profession, you will want to become a licensed Certified Public Accountant (“CPA”). To become a CPA, you will need to meet the educational requirement of 150 semester units, a bachelor’s degree plus 30 semester units. (collectively “Educational Requirement”). In addition to the Educational Requirement you will need to pass the CPA exam and obtain work experience. To learn more about the licensing requirements, please feel free to contact the Accounting Department faculty.
Program Length
For transfer, a student needs 60 semester units that will take approximately four semesters for a full-time student to complete.
However, to meet the Educational Requirement, some students elect to take additional units prior or after transfer. If you have questions regarding this, please feel free to contact the Accounting Department faculty.
